VCSQI’s newly elected Chairman, Robert Shor, MD, provided recommendations for the global COVID-19 pandemic and shared tips for staying safe. Dr. Shor announced that VCSQI will share resources with the group for self care, donning and duffing, along with guidance and guidelines. Click here for resources.
The scholarship for Data Manager Committee Chairs’ travel to annual conferences has been approved. Additional details are forthcoming.
VCSQI aims to balance its Board between Administrators, Surgeons, and Cardiologists. Invitations to serve on the Board have been extended to David Wyatt, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon from Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and Wayne Batchelor, MD, MHS, FACC, FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist from Inova Heart and Vascular Institute.

Implementation and Evaluation of an Application-based Patient Education and Engagement Product in Adult Cardiac Surgery Watch Now
Susan Warriner, MSN, APRN, NP-C, of Winchester Medical Center gave an overview of her work using mobile patient education technology. She discussed program implementation, outcomes and lessons learned from her doctorate thesis.
Implementation of Enhanced Recovery Protocols Watch Now
Rawn Salenger, MD, from the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, provided an extensive overview of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). The interactive discussion focused on aspects of ERAS, including program rollout – with a specific focus on prehabilitation – and barriers to implementation.
Evolution of Clinical-Financial Reporting Watch Now
Gyula Sziraczky, President, ARMUS Corporation, reviewed preliminary data from matching financial records with patients from the CathPCI database. ARMUS continues create innovative new reports and hopes to further machine learning analysis with the VCSQI database in the near future.
ACE Angiogram Reviews and Next Generation Reports Watch Now
Eddie Fonner, VCSQI Executive Director, provided updated reports from the Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) angiogram reviews and the VCSQI CathPCI database. Eddie also gave a high-level look at VCSQI’s newest data set, the Virginia Health Information (VHI) All Payer Claims Database, containing both inpatient and outpatient claims information for Virginia’s cardiac patients.
