Nominees
J'nay Harshbarger
Inova
Nominator:
Rosalba Lozano
Sentara Health
Reason for nomination:
This nominee has helped me/Sentara Norfolk General Hospital implement a process improvement initiative to improve our bleeding rates. Given we had a great opportunity to improve, VCSQI put me in touch with other academic medical centers in the region and Inova was the first one that responded with open arms to help. I was quickly transferred to the correct person, J'nay Harshbarger, Clinical Outcomes Specialist with NCDR and Cath PCI Invasive Vascular Labs, and she was so eager to hop on a call and help us.
Examples of outstanding contributions:
J'nay was able to share their "Reduce the Bleed Initiative" that encompasses a multidisciplinary collaborative team to identify and create specific metrics our hospital needed to watch out for. She helped us with operational details to make this team successful and by creating a monthly cadence assessing the various aspects such doing medication reviews, CHIP case complications, identifying what units highest bleeds are taking place, among many other details our hospital was able to get a better understanding of what we needed to do to improve this bleeding metric.
Additional remarks:
We are at the beginning stages of implementing such task force, however, by Inova and J'nay being open to helping us our hospital was able to identify a gap in resources. This has helped us obtain approval for several FTEs to be hired and help not only in reducing the bleed initiative but many other metrics we would like to improve. I thank J'nay for her willingness to help us and improve the overall quality of care we delivery to the patients we are privileged to serve.
