On December 9th, over 40 participants convened to focus on Acute Kidney Injury. During this forum the VCSQI AKI Workgroup unveiled a comprehensive set of Guidelines for prevention of AKI in cardiac patients.

Members of the VCSQI Quality Committee meet to discuss protocols and procedures around hyperglycemia, pre-op anemia, and much more.

Perfusion Group
Evelyn “Eve” Dallas, CCP, Champion of the Perfusion Group, introduced members to preliminary perfusion metrics as a potential tool to measure success and assess best practices.
In addition, the finishing touches were put in place for the upcoming RAP survey to better understand perfusion practices across the collaborative.

Dr. Greg Dehmer (Carilion) provided an extensive review of the definition of AKI from both STS and the NCDR perspective.

VCSQI AKI Recommendations: Summary and Implementation Steps
Mike Brown, CCP (Mary Washington) and Chris Sytsma, RN, MSN (Winchester) teamed up to introduce participants to the AKI Recommendations that were prepared by the VCSQI AKI Workgroup.
